Gone in for “tests”. Same was said about Bori s Johnston what seems a lifetime ago and he would u p in intensive care. Trump is an elderly man with an underlying condition so those “ tests” could turn out to be rather more.

This makes me wonder what would happen if a president died right before an election he was running in. I don’t think this has happened in modern times (since 1900).

Obviously Pence would become president until January, but if he won the ticket would he stay president or does the republican party get to pick an alternate candidate to shove in there?

This happened with a Senate race in Missouri ~20 years ago where the candidate died right before the election (which he won posthumously) and his wife served in his stead for 2 years until a special election was held.

I don’t think Boris was in intensive care because he was close to death, rather that they wanted to have him in the best place to treat him should he crater. Boris is much younger than Trump.

I think Boris was always sicker than the media were told and he hasn’t been the same since . Anyways, Trump has seemingly stopped tweeting, which isn’t like him, and has been given a cocktail of emergency-use only drugs, which depending on how you look on it is either caution or desperation. Time, as ever, will tell. I’m told, though there are different theories, that a person of 70 to 80 with symptoms has about a 10% chance of not making it.

I read an article today that gave the mortality rate for his demographic at 13%. We can’t trust any news that comes out of this White House, but the lack of Tweets could be telling. As much as I hate the guy, his death would cause an extraordinary amount of upheaval.

This is my thought since it’s actually the parties that select who goes on the ballot and not any law meaning that the party powers could just replace Trump with whomever on the ballot (even though voting has started and ballots are already printed).

The timing of this is what would make it complicated as hell, if he kicks it 3 weeks before an election where voting is already in progress it’s different than if it happened in August.

September 11th was an exception of course, although I’d argure I was far to young (grade 5) to understand the ramifications and the effects that it did have on my life are lessened by me being in Canada. See also: Afganistan, Iraq, George Bush, Supreme Court and economic collapse (grade 10).

Now that I am a functioning adult with a house, job, wife and maybe a family some day..... it is different.

A new VP has to be confirmed by both houses, and not just the Senate (e.g. Ford was confirmed 92-3 in the S enate and 387-35 in the House after Agnew resigned). So the GOP would have to appoint someone palatable to the Dems (despite the recent norm busting and Pelosi’s chance to gain by not approving anyone, I think there would be huge pressure to approve a reasonable choice).

The party would pick a new candidate (possibly reconvening their convention to do so). That would almost certainly be Pence of course. It’s probably too late to change ballots in many places (certainly places where ballots have already been sent out and returned, as in New Jersey), which would make things a bit of a mess. However I think you could still vote for Trump (don’t vote for Trump), and if he won his electors could still vote for Pence in the Electoral College. There is a bit of trickiness in that some states have laws (ruled Constitutional by the Supreme Court earlier this year), requiring electors to vote for the candidate they pledge to, which could create an issue if that candidate is dead.

Screw him. And disgusting seeing all the footage coming out from the Barrett nomination, Mike Lee (who also just tested positive) hugging people, etc. And Barrett has been doing her roadshow sucking up to senators to show them how pleasant and nice she is.

These people think they’re invincible just because they get tested at every turn. But that’s only a point in time test and has pretty high inaccuracy rates...and here we are.

And after hearing that Hope Hicks whom Trump was in close contact with had tested positive, he still went ahead with a campaign fundraiser in NJ with no precautions.

I had a potential exposure to COVID earlier in the week and have been stuck in a bedroom since then, and am getting tested only next Monday, and will most likely have to maintain distancing for a bit even after that. Again, screw these people. Just the public perception itself that they’ve been perpetuating is disgusting. But of course they would, because they know they have the best healthcare, and will have no expense spared for their protection. Don’t give a crap that this is not the reality regular people live in.

NPR was saying this on my way to work. Would be interesting to see if a dem leaning state congress could force electors to “vote” for a deceased person to the benefit of Biden. Obviously if the republican electoral votes were split between the deceased trump and newly appointed Pence I only see Biden gaining from that.
